Academic Integrity
The British Biology Olympiad rewards genuine biological thinking. Fairness and honesty protect the value of every student’s result.

Our expectations
The BBO is sat under exam conditions with in-person teacher invigilation. Students are expected to complete the papers entirely on their own, without help from other people, notes or external resources unless explicitly permitted.
What is not allowed
- Receiving or giving answers during the papers.
- Using unauthorised materials, devices or communication during the exam.
- Sharing live exam content with others while the competition window is open.
- Misrepresenting eligibility (for example, entering outside the permitted year groups).
Why it matters
Awards and the pathway to UK team selection only mean something if every result is earned honestly. Academic integrity keeps the competition fair for all participants and preserves the credibility of a BBO award for university applications.
Consequences
Suspected breaches may lead to disqualification and the withdrawal of awards, in line with the organiser’s rules. Schools are responsible for ensuring proper invigilation.
